University of Victoria:
I am on faculty at the University of Victoria, which offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music. All oboe applicants are invited to take a free trial lesson either in-person or online. Learn more about our programs at:

Why take private lessons?
The oboe is a beautiful, soulful, and rewarding instrument to play. It is also one of the more challenging instruments, making the guidance of a private oboe teacher invaluable. Music lessons are also a great way for younger students to learn life skills such as time management and creative problem solving. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, private lessons will help you fulfill your musical potential.
Oboe reeds:
The double reed is part of why the oboe sounds so beautiful and unique. A good reed is essential to success, for beginners and pros alike. One major benefit of private lessons is having a teacher who can provide you with handmade, personalized oboe reeds.
Reeds handmade by me are included in the lesson fee for all weekly students. University/pre-professional students will be taught how to make and customize their own reeds.
Occasional students may purchase reeds from me as needed.
My teaching style:
I believe that music to improves all aspects of our lives. I work with the unique learning styles of each student to help them achieve their goals, whether they are playing for fun, preparing for university admissions, or kicking off a professional career.
As an oboe teacher, I place a strong emphasis on:
-strong fundamentals that will serve you throughout your musical journey
-individual musical expressivity and exploration
-creative, smart, and effective practice techniques
-for advanced students: reed-making and fluency on the English horn as needed
My teaching style is also informed by an awareness of overall wellbeing, including performance psychology and injury prevention.
